Editorial:

The corruption that infects Belize’s political system is not a mere flaw—it is a design feature, carefully maintained by an extractive political and economic elite whose sole purpose is self-enrichment. The upcoming 2025 General Election offers the people a choice: continue as pawns in their game or rise as agents of transformative change.

This is not just about the PUP. The UDP is equally guilty of voter fraud, vote-buying, and manipulating our democratic institutions for their benefit. Together, these two parties have constructed an edifice of corruption that robs the people of true representation.

This extractive class has weaponized poverty to maintain control, dangling crumbs before the electorate while hoarding the spoils of public office. They have turned our democracy into a marketplace, where the highest bidder buys votes, and the losers—always the people—are left to suffer.

But the cracks in their foundation are showing. Belizeans are awakening to the reality that both parties thrive on the same corrupt practices, that their promises are hollow, and that their governance serves the few at the expense of the many. The people’s patience is wearing thin.

The time for half-measures is over. Belize needs nothing short of a political revolution—one that dismantles the extractive political class, roots out corruption, and rebuilds our democracy from the ground up. The future of this nation depends on it.

We call on the people of Belize to reject the false choices offered by the PUP and UDP. Demand accountability. Demand transparency. Demand leaders who serve the people, not their pockets. The 2025 election must be a turning point, or we risk losing the soul of our nation.

It’s time to end the extractive politics of the past and build a Belize that works for everyone. The extractive class will not give up their grip easily, but united, the people hold the power to break their chains. Let 2025 be the year we take our democracy back.
