Guatemala's Military Base in the Adjacency Zone Violates Confidence Building Measures

The recent discovery of a military base being built by the Guatemalan military in the Adjacency Zone has raised serious concerns about their intentions towards Belize. The base is located in the Santa Cruz area of Guatemala, opposite the BDF base in Jalacte, Toledo District, and was discovered by the Belize Defence Force during a routine patrol.

The United Nations has taken a significant step in its efforts to better respond to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by launching a U.N. common premises in Belize. The inauguration of UN House in Belmopan was attended by members of the Briceño administration, including the prime minister, government officials, and the diplomatic corps.
