The 2022 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices by the BUREAU OF DEMOCRACY, HUMAN RIGHTS, AND LABOR highlights significant human rights issues in Belize, including abuse and inhumane treatment by security and prison officers, arbitrary arrest and detention, refoulement of refugees, serious corruption by government officials, and substantial barriers to accessing sexual and reproductive health services. The report suggests that there were few successful prosecutions for these abuses, and officials often engaged in corrupt practices with impunity.

However, there are notable recommendations that could help Belize address some of these accusations.
