The investigation into the edibles that were sold to children at a primary school in Lake Independence, Belize, has revealed that the weed gummies were imported into the country via customs, who discovered them in a barrel. The Anti Narcotics Unit then retrieved the gummies, and samples were taken and sent to the National Forensic Science Services for analysis. After the boxes containing the gummies were taken to the national exhibit room in Belize City for safekeeping, pending the return of the results that were requested from the lab, the exhibit keeper decided to dispose of these gummies by putting them in a garbage trailer that is kept inside the Queen Street Police Station compound. The yardman at Queen Street then took the trailer to the dumpsite at mile three on the George Price Highway and disposed of those gummies. The garbage man, likewise, or the yardman, also dug into the boxes and he too took some of those gummies, as well as other persons who were at the dumpsite at that particular moment. The gummies were then brought back into the city by different persons and were later sold. An intensive investigation is being conducted into all that went wrong to have these edibles end up for sale in front of a primary school in Lake Independence. Meanwhile, the two most severe cases of marijuana intoxication were admitted to the hospital, and the rest of the children were released. The incident has brought the need for policies where school vendors are concerned to the forefront, and while the issue has been discussed previously, there were no approved measures in place to vet the street side sellers. The responsibility that each vendor has to ensure that the products and food items being sold at school are safe for human consumption was also highlighted.
