He also noted that “Allowances” that had been reduced during this time will also be fully restored adding that government’s working hours will revert to 39.5 hours week.

One of the top decisions made by the Briceño Administration which emanated out of their two-day Cabinet retreat last weekend was to give back the full 10% salary to public officers and teachers come 1st July 2022.

The inference first surfaced public as a background information by Prime Minister Briceño during an appearance on a local Talk Show earlier where he stated it would become official after he inform the joint unions.

Immediately after, he sent a letter to the joint unions saying that contrary to the advice given by the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF), government will alleviate the fiscal burden brought upon public officers and teachers since 1st June 2021 and will restore the full 10% in salaries come 1st July.

He also noted that “Allowances” that had been reduced during this time will also be fully restored adding that government’s working hours will revert to 39.5 hours week.

Increments will continue suspended for two additional fiscal years as previously indicated unless an end-of-year primary surplus as a percentage of GDP of no less than 3.5% is achieved before then, which will call for the matter of increments to be revisited.

Briceño also said his government is looking forward to a comprehensive review on the Public Officers Pension Scheme that is very costly and unsustainable and in need of a serious reform.
