Guats to Boost Military Might along Belize Border !

Combat Ready Guatemalan Soldiers

While Prime Minister Barrow Bullies the Nation, He is Sheepishly Silent !

Belize: February 05th, 2017.

The Guatemalan Minister of Defense, General William Mancilla, said that this strategy is necessary and is especially needed within the Maya Biosphere to reinforce along the 212 kilometers of the Belize /Guatemala adjacency zone, where tensions persists, and equally the 35 kilometers of the disputed Sarstún River, which despite being guarded by the Guatemalan National Navy, the area has been an area of provocation on the part of Belize Enforcement Units.

The Guatemalan Minister of Defence, General William Mancilla has announced that some 4,200 military troops will be dispatched along its borders including the entire Petén Maya Biosphere and the Sarstun area to fortify all its strategic bases along Belize, Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador to enhance the presence of its national territory.

General Mancillas made this stunning announcement on January 23rd at the first Cabinet meeting held by President Morales where he said that this military manoeuvre to start on 1st April of this year. He stated that the 4200 troops will be extracted from Guatemala City where they presently render enforcement support to the Policia Nacional Civil.

The Guatemalan General added that this strategy is necessary and is especially needed within the Maya Biosphere to reinforce along the 212 kilometers of the Belize /Guatemala adjacency zone, where tensions persists, and equally the 35 kilometers of the disputed Sarstún River, which despite being guarded by the Guatemalan National Navy, the area has been an area of provocation on the part of Belize Enforcement Units.

Mancillas made his case in Cabinet noting that apart from the senseless provocation on the part of the Belize Arm Forces along the border, there is also the rising concern of increase trafficking of humans smuggled mainly for the purpose of prostitution, he highlighted that their authorities have seen a growing number of incidences regarding the contraband of high tag products such as cigarettes and liquor which is smuggled out of Belize. He added that the drug cartels apart from the routine trafficking of drugs are involved in the financing of contraband products that are smuggled along the western border via blind spots.

According to him the “Usumacinta River” - in Petén - is extremely large and it is also where boats transport illegal cargo”.

A spokesman for the Guatemalan Ministry of Defence, William David Garcia said that these soldiers will be posted to the brigades of Petén, Jutiapa, Zacapa, Huehuetenango and San Marcos but added that Guatemala presently have 22,000 troops but will upgrade 8,000 more to bring to a total of 30,000 troops that is needed to provide appropriate security to its borders.

Garcia noted that since the last quarter of 2014, Guatemalan authorities have identified at least 10 land-based drug trafficking routes in the country, of which nine arrives in country destined to Mexico from Belize, the Caribbean, El Salvador and Honduras.

The drug cargo that does make it to Mexico crosses the entire eastern part of the country from the Pacific Ocean all the way to Belize.

Hearing of all this Guatemalan military build-up at a time when the UDP government of Prime Minister Dean Barrow is sheepishly silent.

Belize presently have an Embassy in Guatemala and a handsomely paid Ambassador with a full staff that is either not doing its job of reporting current events of the Guatemalan Regime. Meanwhile the Barrow Administration seem to be lacking intestinal fortitude to deal with the situation at hand but rather prefers to keep the people of Belize in darkness regarding the cynical moves and strategies of Guatemala.
